We are all glued to the television watching the horror of the tragedy in the Tohoku region of Japan. I don't know if many people know but this area is where Hiro is from. All of his family lives there, the house we stay at when we visit is generations old, he is the 19th generation to live there. This is a very personal tragedy, though luckily enough his immediate family seems to all be alright. Our very good friend Sho Kamio from Yoshi's is also from Sendai, last August we spent 2 fabulous days with his brother in Sendai, luckily for Sho he and the rest of the family are alright.
But so many are not, and one of the things that we as chefs are so passionate about has been wiped out, the farmers, both on land and from the waters. We chefs hosted 2 events to help raise money to restart the farming community on a very small basis. We are hoping to make a difference to individual farmers to rebuild the land and the aqua culture they have lost.
